#tbtPrimelite: While combing through the Primelite archives, we came across a series of original black and white photographs from our 1960 catalogs. Among the photos were these wood and brass ceiling fixtures. These diamond shaped kitchen fixtures came with cherry or walnut wood frame and textured glass diffusers. With a 1960s modern design, this fixtures would still be at home in any contemporary retro installation.

Last week was International Dark Sky Week, a week that draws attention to problems associated with light pollution and promoting simple solutions available to mitigate it.
The nighttime environment is a precious natural resource for all life on Earth, but the glow of uncontrolled outdoor lighting has hidden the stars and changed our perception of the night. Until recently, for all of human history, our ancestors experienced a sky brimming with stars – a night sky that inspired science, religion, philosophy, art and literature, including some of Shakespeare’s most famous sonnets.
The natural night sky is our common and universal heritage, yet is rapidly becoming unknown to the newest generations…Experiencing the night sky provides perspective, inspiration, and leads us to reflect on our humanity and place in the universe. The history of scientific discovery and even human curiosity itself is indebted to the natural night sky.*
Primelite is doing our part to help promote dark skies with the release of our LED versions of the “Dark Sky Friendly” street light, #1235. #tbtPrimelite: Primelite’s flashback this week highlights our “Glamour Globes” series from the 1970s. Heavily influenced by the disco era, these fun globes were constructed of polycarbonate and embedded with crackle chips, within the globes, creating the metallic finish shown. Available in the “de rigueur” colors of the time, including green, gold, blue, red, and white. These globes were, and still are, the definition of “cool”!

Globes have always been one of Primelite’s most popular styles of lighting. But did you know globes are no longer just round? Today Primelite offers globes in many shapes; including cube, ellipsoid, “deco”, and round. While the colorful “Glamour Globe” series is no longer available, we do offer our globes in opal, smoke and clear.
